Is there a way to live and perform that doesn’t leave you completely drained?

I wanted to know too. This book explores what we have to change.

The Slow Rebellion

Conscious Choices in a World Addicted to More

The most important thing you can do is enhance your humanness.

It is the things machines cannot replicate that matter most in our pursuit of happiness, success and energy. Curiosity. Emotional depth. The ability to read a room, hold complexity, make meaning.

But they only emerge from a brain that isn't constantly on fire. Your greatest competitive advantage in the age of AI is learning to give your brain the conditions to be its best, both at work, but also for everything in your life.

Most people already know what they need.

The problem isn't awareness. It's the noise.

We live in a culture that has confused speed with progress, busyness with importance, and noise with intelligence. The result is a generation of capable, driven leaders who are running fast and slowly losing access to the very things that make them exceptional. A generation who believe and seem willing to accept cycles of exhaustion with effectiveness as part of the deal with life.

Why

Your brain is remarkable. But only when you let it be.

Under chronic pressure, your brain cannot distinguish between a deadline, a frustrating email and something more truly threatening. It responds the same way to both experiences, flooding the body with stress, suppressing the ability of our mind to think clearly and effectively. The decisions, the creativity, the empathy, the judgment all go offline.

It’s our biology and mindset that needs understanding, not our desire or willpower to be better.

“Researchers have found that people in flow states, accessible only through presence, are up to 500% more productive. Slow is not slower. It's how your brain actually performs.”

Meet the Author

Hello curious friends,

I'm not writing this book because I have figured all this out. I write it because I haven’t, and because the pull toward speed, noise, and more-ness is as strong in my life as it is in yours.

I take care of my health, have twenty years of neuroscience-based coaching with senior leaders under my belt, a deep meditation practice. And I still lose the thread. Most days, I feel the pull of the rushing river that carries my family, my clients, my community and me, along with it. This feeling of constant movement is also the most common cause of stress and burnout I see among senior leaders of the world, as well as my friends.

But there’s a way to live fully that doesn’t require repetitive drain, or completely giving everything up. It’s just not the way the world is telling us to do it. It will take a rebellion to change, even if it’s a small, personal one.

My hope is that in writing this, I anchor myself more fully into a connected way of living. And that in reading it, you do too.

This book is my own rebellion, as much as it is an invitation to yours.

ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH? AM I?

Join me on this exploration of the mind, of energy and of our world today and let’s see how we do this better,

Alex
